What the site is, technically

Every page here is a static file. There is no database of visitors, no login, no session, no shopping basket and no server-side process that records who asked for what beyond the ordinary logging any web server performs in order to serve a page at all.

That architecture is the reason this page is short. Most privacy policies are long because most sites collect things. This one does not have the machinery to.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies.

It also carries no advertising, no tracking pixels, no social media buttons and no third-party embeds: no video players, no comment widgets, no font services loading from someone else's domain. Typefaces are served from this site itself precisely so that reading a page does not involve a request to anybody else.

The practical consequence is that visiting a page here does not create a record of you on a third party's system.

Analytics

There are none. No analytics service, no tag manager, no tracking pixel, no beacon and no third-party script of any kind runs on this site. That is a stronger statement than a promise about what a measurement tool would or would not record, and unlike a promise you can check it: open your browser’s network tab on any page here and every request goes to this domain — the page, the stylesheet, three font files and the images. Nothing else.

The consequence is worth being plain about, because it cuts both ways. Nobody, including this site itself, knows which pages you read, how long you stayed or where you arrived from. That also means the decision about which pages get revisited and re-verified is made on the merits of the subject rather than on traffic, which for a reference is the sounder basis anyway.

What is not collected

No email addresses, because there is no form and no newsletter. No account details, because there are no accounts. No comments or submissions, because the site does not accept them. No payment information, because nothing is for sale.

There is no contact database. The contact page explains why there is no mailbox, and one consequence is that there is no correspondence to store.

Server logs

Like any site, this one is served by a web server, and web servers keep operational logs in order to function and to be maintained. Those logs typically record the address a request came from, the page requested, the time, and the browser's own description of itself.

That information is a by-product of delivering a page rather than something gathered about you. It is not combined with anything else, not used to build a profile, and not passed to a third party for any purpose. It exists because a server cannot serve a page without knowing where to send it.

Children

Geocaching is a hobby a great many families do together, so it is worth stating explicitly: there is nothing on this site that collects information from anybody, of any age. No accounts, no forms, no submissions. A child reading a page here leaves no more trace than an adult does, which is to say none beyond the server log described above.

Pages here refer to other organisations (listing services, archives, registries) and where a reference points outward, following that link takes you to a site with its own policies. This reference has no control over and no visibility into what those sites do.

Changes

If what the site collects ever changes, this page changes with it. Its verification date shows when it was last confirmed to describe what actually happens rather than what was once intended.
