Happy Birthday, Dear Groundspeak …

Happy birthday to Groundspeak’s Jeremy Irish, Bryan Roth and Elias Alvord … Not to mention all the lackeys and volunteer reviewers.

Twelve years ago – on September 2nd, 2000 – Irish set up Geocaching.com on a home computer in the spare bedroom of his Seattle-area apartment.

“At that time, fewer than 100 geocaches had been hidden around the globe. Twelve years later, more than 1000 geocaches are hidden by geocachers and published by volunteer reviewers each day,” according to the company’s Latitude 47 blog.

They’ve come a long way since then; to see just how far, check out this photo from the early days (back when Groundspeak was named Grounded Inc). Don’t you just love Roth’s sunglasses?

Take a moment to wish this hardworking geo-crew a good day by signing our birthday card in the comments below …
