New Swag On The Cards At INATN

Please Mr Postman, look and see if there’s a letter in your bag for me … oh, and Cumbyrocks too.

We’re currently both waiting for geocaching trading cards to arrive in the mail.

In Peter’s case, it’s my birthday present to him; a set of 250 trading cards from FTF Geocacher. The popular American magazine began offering custom options earlier this year and recently launched its second series of glossy cards at a cheaper rate.

On a front is each player’s photo – in Cumby’s case, a shot of him out in the field taken by fellow Dunedin cacher Gerard Hyland (GC handle: GSVNoFixedAbode); while the back lists their stats, including favourite cache, find rates, latest milestone, signature swag item and a personal quote.

Publisher CK Petrus told Facebook fans last month: “I have closed out ‘Series 1′ of our geocaching trading cards but am happy to report a new and improved ‘Series 2′ line. By popular demand: 1. Statistics on the back of the cards are current as of the time of order; 2. I have removed the date from the front of the card; and 3. I’ve reduced quantity/pricing options by US$20 or more.”

I first heard of the FTF Geocacher cards when interviewing New York state player Shane Holmes (GC handle: GeoLobo) about  this new geo-trend.

And it’s from him that I’m expecting my own parcel – all 20 of his Geocaching History Cards, two extra sets to trade with and five of Holmes’ own examples.
