Group Hunts Relegated To Event Horizon

Bad news, people. Organised group hunts are off the events calendar at – for now, anyway.

In February, It’s Not About The Numbers broke the news that Groundspeak planned to introduce this new event category worldwide – thanks to a two-month trial brokered by volunteer reviewers in Canada’s Ontario province.

However, community relations manager Sandy Barker announced this week that the project was “on the back-burner for the time being”.

“That said, there are active discussions about implementation here at Groundspeak,” she wrote in the Testing In Ontario: Organised Cache Hunts forum thread. “I will certainly update this thread when we know more, and/or if a roll-out date is decided.

“Thank you for your continued support of this cache type, which I will be passing on to the appropriate lackeys.”

For now, though, Rule 2.2.5 – which states that events “should not be set up for the sole purpose of drawing together players for an organised geocache search” – stands.
