New Year Honour For Services To Geocaching!

Brendan Lindsay

Okay, so it’s not quite “services to geocaching”, but the founder and current owner of Sistema Plastics – the company which produces the plastic snaplock container most commonly used by Kiwi geocachers  – has been made a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his business acumen.

Given how good Brendan Lindsay’s snaplock containers (similar to the popular Lock & Lock versions in America) are as geocaches, this 2011 New Year honour should definitely be counted as recognition of the Auckland businessman’s contribution to our favourite sport.

According to a comment by Lindsay in another article: “We’ve grown our business every year around 20-25 per cent, but in the last two years we’ve grown 80 per cent.” I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a similar increase in the number of geocaches placed during that time!

I wonder if they are perplexed with the popularity of the 200 and 400 ml range. They must think there are an awful lot of scrap bookers out there 🙂
