Job Vacancy: OpenCaching Ambassador

Pick me, pick me, pick me OpenCaching …

I’ve just applied to be a new ambassador for Garmin’s listing service. And you can sign up too.

According to OX’s latest blog post, it wants enthusiastic opencachers to “spread the love” about its six-month-old community and “share feedback from active geocachers around the world”.

Its job advertisement reads: “As an ambassador, your main responsibility will be to work with geocaching event organisers and geocaching associations in your area. You will attend events and association meetings to give away swag, answer questions about, gather feedback that will help shape the future of the site, and just share your Opie enthusiasm with other cachers.

“Being an Ambassador is a volunteer job, but it’s not without some perks. Of course, we’ll provide you with plenty of swag to give away – making you a rockstar at events. We’ll also outfit you in garb to identify you as an Opie expert. To make sure you are an expert, you’ll get sneak peeks into upcoming features and access to beta software for Garmin devices.

“The feedback you gather and the opinions you provide will make even better. If you’re meeting with lots of cachers and sharing great input, we might even decide you need a new Garmin handheld to show off and demonstrate.”

Would-be envoys should love talking about geocaching and their favourite (read Garmin) devices, belong to their local geocaching club, and be planning to attend at least four geo-events – preferably of 50-plus people – in 2011. Applicants are sought worldwide, though it appears OpenCaching plans to launch this new diplomatic squad in its prime markets first.
