‘Moa Trackables, Please Sir’

Here’s one guy who definitely has the travel bug …

First, Geocachers NZ vendor Kevin Swain launched the country’s first custom trackable tag – depicting a weta – with fellow geo-addict Zork V. And now he’s offering two more Kiwi designs through the Auckland-based webstore he runs with wife Catherine.

Priced at NZ$10 each, his latest travel bugs feature a Maori tiki and extinct, native bird the moa. Both are expected in stock this week.

All three Geocachers NZ tags are manufactured Down Under to the same specifications as a standard Groundspeak travel bug. And, as you’d expect, they’re trackable on GC.com, where each has its own icon.

But if you’d rather bug geocaching friends with a one-of-a-kind design, the Swains (GC handle: Kevs_Team) are also offering a custom travel tag service. Colour, black and white, one side or two; it’s your call.

“Just email sales@geocachers.co.nz with your photo or graphic or image in .jpg format and the quantity required, and we will be in touch,” Swain says.

“We can produce any number of tags, however each design much be approved by Groundspeak before going into production.”

It’s Not About The Numbers understands the price for such an order is about NZ$9 per tag plus GST, including the cost of Groundspeak tracking numbers. But if you want your new dogtags to have a custom icon on GC.com, it will cost another US$150.

*As further proof of the Swains’ travel bug addiction, the Aucklanders have announced on Facebook that they’ll be relocating to Australia in the near future. But “our family business will continue to operate as normal”, they say – with Swain running the webstore from across the ditch while his father, Kevin senior, handles dispatch here. The couple plan to return for the first NZ Mega event in October 2012, as well as multiple visits before then to see family and friends.
*Watch out early next week for a special It’s Not About The Numbers giveaway for another exclusive Geocachers NZ product.

I was the first to order one of these but oops seems I didn’t pay up lol, about to fix that! I also have the weta which I was going to take to Matiu/Somes Historic Trail GC1WK81 (where wetas are being well looked after. there is even a “weta motel!”) but left the darn trackable at home on my last trip there. Ah well still struggling to solve the other cache on the Island so I guess another trip is in order lol

We might have to join forces out there, Rob.
