Geocaching is an Addiction

Hi, my name is Cumbyrocks and its been six days since my last geocache.

Today I gave into temptation and binged on seven caches.

For many people who take part in the ‘hobby’ of geocaching it is an addiction. I’m one of them. Geocaching is my time out, my break away from the world, my excuse to get into the outdoors and commune with nature. If I happen to be busy, as I am this month, and don’t get to cache much I seriously miss it. Today I HAD to get out and find some caches to satisfy the thirst.

Google ‘Geocaching Addiction’ and the following series of questions crops up as part of a cache called Geocaching Addiction Test at Navicache.com. Take the test and see how many questions you answer YES!

1. Have you missed classes or work because of geocaching?
2. Along those same lines, have you ever taken an entire afternoon for your lunch break because of geocaching?
3. Do you have trouble going anywhere without first checking to see if there is a geocache in that area you have not yet found?
4. Does the sport of geocaching come up in almost all conversations you have?
5. Do you consider the number of geocaches you have found to be guiding your self-confidence?
6. Do you use geocaching to help you relax?
7. Have you left home without something you are supposed to bring (like your spouse) but never without your Geocaching bag?
8. Do you log in to Geocaching.com as soon as you wake up to see if there is a new cache in your area (OK, then how about just before you go to bed)?
9. Do you forget your spouses name, but remember the cache number to your favorite geocache?
10. Have you begged your spouse to take you to the local dollar store to get more “log books”?
11. Do you lie to others about how often you geocache?
12. Has anyone asked you to “Sit down, we need to talk” about your geocaching?

I had a score of seven, which I consider to be okay.

And I think that if an addiction to geocaching leads me to places and situations that leads to photos like this then it can’t be a bad thing at all:

Yes! My addiction has 20/20 vision, blood pressure 120/80 and low cholesterol…it’s a pity about the rest of me!
